Have You Ever Had a Dream?

CaSera Heining ’17 shares how her dream of attending Columbia became a reality.

Have you ever had a dream come true?

My name is CaSera Heining. I am a senior majoring in Radio.

When I was growing up, no one in my family talked about college. My parents didn’t go to college, and I knew we couldn’t afford it. Columbia had always been my dream school that I wasn’t sure I would be able to attend. Fortunately, with the generous scholarships I received, the idea of going to Columbia became real for me.

Where would I be without scholarship support?

I wouldn’t be living out my dream as a Columbia student! In May, I will be the first person in my family to graduate from college. My family and friends view me as a role model because I have pursued an education that I love.

I have learned that there are no limits to what Columbia students can do. Literally. No. Limits.

Who knew that I’d already be working as a DJ for Young Chicago Authors, an organization committed to writing, publication, and performance education. And I connect with youth as an on-air personality and radio station assistant at WCRX-FM, a Top 40 station broadcasting throughout Chicagoland. After I graduate, I plan to work as a station programmer and hone my skills as an on-air host.

All of this is because donors gave me the opportunity to follow my dream at Columbia.

Would you help another student? Would you make a gift today?

Your gift will help someone like me turn their dream into a reality. Believe me. I know.

Thank you,

CaSera Heining ’17
